Project Editor Description
CivicStory's project editor brings excellent writing, tech, social media, and audience development skills to a unique nonprofit news site. The PE serves as project manager for an ecology-civics fellowship (Feb-Jun 2025), crafts brief bi-weekly news updates, and helps to amplify youth voices and foster dialogue around the civic role of news. The PE is flexible and organized, collaborative, motivating, and thoughtful about words and meanings in our diverse democracy.
Responsibilities and tasks
Expedite the selection of ecology-civics fellows (Feb)
Create bi-weekly news updates; co-publish fellows’ articles on SRhub.org.
Engage NJ journalists, news editors, nonprofits, and the public through social media
Guide CivicStory’s weekly editorial advisory meetings
Required qualifications
Excellent writing and analytical skills; strong organization and attention to detail
Curiosity, empathy, and passion for empowering citizens of all backgrounds
Web publishing experience; technical proficiency across all digital platforms
Masters in journalism or equivalent experience; ease using social media
Residence in New Jersey
Timeframe: Six-month contract starting January 2025; remote position; estimated 12-15 hours per week; $2400/mo. Flexible schedule; some weekday availability needed. Applications are welcome even without all listed qualifications.
