VIDEO: Willliam Scheide Birthday Concert Benefits Arts Council of Princeton

William H. Scheide was a Princeton resident, philanthropist, humanitarian, and Bach scholar. On Saturday, November 29, 2014, family and friends gathered at Nassau Presbyterian Church, Princeton, to celebrate his life and work through a 3-hour tribute of Bach, Schubert and memories. Mr. Scheide passed away on November 14 at age 100.

In recent years, Mr. Scheide and his wife, Judith, enriched Princeton's cultural life through annual “birthday concerts” that benefitted local organizations such as the Arts Council of Princeton and Centurian Ministries. In addition to his passion for arts (he founded the Bach Aria Group) and rare books (his collection is thought to be one of the most valuable in the world), Mr. Scheide was a strong supporter of civil rights and a major contributor to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund's pivotal work on school desegregation.  (Filmed January 2010)
