Creative New Jersey Bets on Diversity (2015)
130 citizens from various fields and walks of life heed a two-day "Call to Collaboration" and explore ways to diversify Atlantic City's businesses and image. "It's giving the city a chance to reinvent itself," says Atlantic City Police Chief Henry White.
Called Creative Atlantic City, this is the seventh cross-sector convening organized by Creative New Jersey, a program of the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation that was launched in 2012.
Participants include author Turiya S.A. Raheem, adjunct professor at Atlantic Cape Community College and an expert on the segregated history of the city's Northside neighborhood, and Natalie Devonish, president of a youth enrichment program. Natalie's question: "how do you attract the young professional to live, stay, and participate here in Atlantic City," engenders passionate debate.
